Inhabiting this world as a woman is complex. We are often our own worst critics, and society has made it incredibly difficult to thrive — so much so that women sometimes end up putting other women down. We’re taught to compete, to compare, to be cautious. Vulnerability feels risky. Sisterhood often feels like a fragile dream.
But sometimes, in the right space, something extraordinary happens.
The other day, a new friend invited me over for tea, along with four other women I hadn’t met before. What was meant to be a casual evening turned into something magical. We often underestimate the power of what can unfold when women let their guards down — when people who are deeply in touch with the spiritual, the emotional, the intangible, come together.
We shared how difficult it had been for each of us to open up. How we had idealised friendship in the past, only to be let down. How the people we once trusted with our truth eventually left — and how, in response, we built walls to protect ourselves from that mourning, from that sense of loss.
And yet, in that room, we allowed those walls to lower. Each of us shared our struggles, and together we found wisdom.
Personally, I realised and reaffirmed so much that evening. I was reminded of my purpose in this world — of why I write, why I love making music, dancing, experiencing art, and connecting through communication. It’s because I love expression. I love reaching people and making them feel something. And if that something can lead to greater good, then I am complete.
I am here to feel and to live, to express and to inspire.
I hope you have women in your life who allow you to reach that space — a space of depth, of understanding, a hug for the soul.
